ATTORNEY PROFILE
Jacqueline Brown Scott is a San Francisco-based immigration attorney who has experience solving a wide array of immigration issues pertaining to deportation defense and family-based immigration. She has dedicated a significant part of her practice to providing pro bono legal representation to individuals who are especially in need of legal services and unable to afford them. She works with the Board of Immigration Appeals Pro Bono Project, the National Center for Immigrant and Refugee Children, CLINIC’s National Pro Bono Project for Children, and she volunteers as an immigration attorney for the Community of East Palo Alto Legal Services immigration program. Jacqueline created and maintains a blog about immigration case law in the Ninth Circuit and the Board of Immigration Appeals. She is a member of the State Bar of California and the federal Third Circuit Court of Appeals. She also belongs to the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), the Queen’s Bench, and she is Co-Chair of the Immigration Section of the San Francisco Bar Association’s Barristers Club.
Jacqueline began her career in immigration law at the San Francisco Immigration Court as an attorney advisor through the Department of Justice Honors Program. Her duties included writing final orders, analyzing and presenting changes in immigration law to the immigration judges, supervising the court’s judicial law clerks, and managing the court's intern program.
Jacqueline graduated from the University of San Francisco School of Law in 2005 in the top ten percent of her class. She served as an Article’s Editor for the USF Law Review, and she focused her studies on human rights and refugee law. Jacqueline received the CALI Excellence for the Future Award in International Human Rights Law, and she participated in the school’s International Human Rights Law Clinic. She presented written statements and oral interventions on the issue of the trafficking of women and children at the United Nations Commission on Human Rights in Geneva, Switzerland.
In addition to her law degree, Jacqueline has a MA in International Relations from San Francisco State University. She has lived in San Francisco for over a decade, and her practice is located in the city’s Richmond District. Jacqueline herself is the wife, daughter, and granddaughter of immigrants, and she holds dual citizenship with the United States and Ireland. Before becoming an attorney, she experienced first-hand the confusion and anxiety often associated with the immigration maze when her Swiss husband adjusted his status to that of a legal permanent resident.
